Before you sew
Assemble your necessary supplies (additional details here):
Fabrics for the outer mask and lining (one rectangle of each, 7.25” high by 10.25” wide for adult size mask)
Thread
1/4-inch elastic (2 pieces at least 8” in length per mask)
Silicone sliders (2 per mask)
Nose wire (2mm x 150mm plastic coated wire)
Rotary cutter, mat, and ruler (or other means to measure and cut your fabrics)
Iron and pressing surface
Sewing machine and machine needle
Other basic sewing supplies such as small scissors/snips; sewing gauge or other small measuring tool; sewing “stiletto” or wooden chopstick or skewer; sewing clips or pins; etc.
Pre-wash and dry your fabrics on the hottest temperature recommended by the manufacturer.
Thread your machine and test the tension and other settings, following the instructions in your user manual.
Note that the tutorials on this site are intended for those with knowledge of basic sewing skills and sewing machine operation. The tutorials share certain methods and techniques specific to making 3D masks but do not include sewing instruction.
