Infinite Dress
PATTERN: McCalls 5360 (1976)
Completed March 2019
I picked up this slinky gold fabric from the remnant bin at a local fabric store but had no plans for it. When I had an event coming up with a disco theme, it was the perfect opportunity to make this 1970s “infinite dress” pattern, so-called because of the many ways you can style the top. It’s basically a tube with long, tapering tails. There’s a single seam down the middle, but every raw edge needed a baby hem. I also did not have the 3-5/8 yards of fabric the pattern called for, so I had to piece the tails.
In the end I didn’t wear the dress to the event. It was a little too slinky for me to wear to a school fundraiser. I’ll save it for Vegas.
