PATTERN: Vogue 1113 (1961)
Completed December 2019
I chose this pattern for a couture sewing class with Lynda Maynard at City College of San Francisco. We were to make a strapless dress with a corselet, but otherwise we had a lot of freedom to choose a pattern. This fabric was an end cut I purchased online. There was only about 1-3/8 yards. I juuuust squeezed the pattern pieces on. I made no attempt to match the pattern at the seams, but miraculously - and completely accidentally - a stem lined up perfectly at the side seam.
I used cotton bobbinet for the corselet, with spiral steel boning in an applied casing and a Petersham waist stay. I hand-picked the lapped zipper at the left side. There is a strip of bias-cut flannel along the top edge to soften the roll of the outer fabric, which is catch-stitched to the bobbinet on the inside. The bow at the front is lined in red silk charmeuse for contrast, but also because I was out of fabric!
