Octagon method

Though I prefer the ease of the Rectangle method, there are times I like to sew the octagon shape to eliminate bulk, especially in kids’ sized masks. Instead of cutting the octagon shape before sewing, I trace the stitching line onto the lining to eliminate the guesswork of where to stitch and especially where to pivot at the angles. Plus, it’s more stable to sew across the corners before the fabric is trimmed, eliminating distortion and stretched out seams on the diagonals.
